Passport Note

El Salvador is party to the Central America Border Control Agreement (CA-4). Under the terms of this agreement, tourists may travel within any of the CA-4 countries (Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala) for a period of up to 90 days, without completing entry and exit formalities at border immigration checkpoints. This period begins at the first point of entry in to any of the CA-4 countries. Fines are applied for travellers who exceed this 90-day limit, although a request for a 30-day extension can be made before the 90 days limit expires.


Passports

To enter El Salvador, a passport valid for at least six months is required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.


Visas

Visas are not required by nationals referred to in the chart above for stays of up to 90 days, except: 1. Nationals of Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia and Romania, who must buy a 30-day tourist card on entry for US$10. Nationals not referred to in the chart are advised to contact the embassy to check visa requirements for El Salvador.


Visa Note

Sufficient funds and an ongoing ticket are required for visas.


Types of Visa and Cost

Tourist card (on arrival): US$10; single-entry visa: US$30; multiple-entry visa: US$60.


Validity

Tourist cards are valid for 30 days; single-entry visas are valid for 30, 60 or 90 days; multiple-entry visas are valid for a year.

Working Days Required

One to three days, or five to eight for applications referred to the immigration department for authorisation.
